Founded in 1957, China National Institute for Educational Research (CNIER) is the only national-level comprehensive educational research institute on the Chinese mainland, under the direct administration of the Chinese Ministry of Education. It has more than 140 full time researchers in residence. CNIER is primarily engaged in many aspects of educational policies research, basic theoretical research, experimental educational research, and comparative educational research. CNIER administers two publishing houses specializing on education and four major academic journals. The National Educational Planning Office based in CNIER administers educational research programs of the whole country .And CNIER serves as a steering organization for the educational research institutes in China’s over 30 provinces. CNIER has extensive collaboration and exchange with many international organizations, and universities and research centers in many countries.

China National Institute for Educational Research (CNIER), affiliated to the Ministry of Education, is a comprehensive national research institute of educational sciences, with glorious revolutionary tradition, whose predecessor is the Research Division of Chinese Education of the Central Academy of Research established by the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1941 in Yan’an of Shaanxi Province. CNIER was founded on January 26, 1957, with the official approval by the State Council and the Central Secretariat. During the “Cultural Revolution” (1966-1976), it was disbanded for a period, and re-founded on July 14, 1978 by the State Council with instructions of Mr. Deng Xiaoping and other state leaders.
